Persistently low water levels on the Danube and Rhine are leading to growing restrictions for shipping, according to expert agencies, with a level of only 21 centimeters expected at Kaub on the Middle Rhine.

The dry phase in Central Europe is increasingly affecting the major waterways. At several gauging stations along the Rhine and the Danube, water levels are significantly below the values required for unrestricted shipping. Experts expect levels to continue declining in the coming days before the situation might potentially stabilize.
