As part of a major operation against youth crime on Wednesday, 82 police officers from Vienna and four other federal states checked public squares and traffic hubs in Vienna.

According to the Vienna Police, the large-scale operation involved the City Police Command Meidling, the Vienna Rapid Response Unit, the Vienna State Criminal Office, the Department of Foreigners' Police and Detention Enforcement, the Police Dog Unit, and the Vienna State Traffic Department. In addition, 24 officers from Lower Austria, Burgenland, Styria, and Upper Austria supported the operation.

According to the available information, the focal points of the checks included several districts, among them Vienna-Meidling station and the Favoriten district. The authorities are responding to a long-discussed increase in youth offences in public spaces.
