Kansas City, 11 July 2026
The Swiss national team will have to do without Johan Manzambi, who is out with a bruised knee, in the World Cup quarterfinal against Argentina in Kansas City in the early hours of Sunday morning (CEST 03:00).
The 20-year-old attacker from Geneva picked up the injury in the final training session before the round of 16 against Colombia. Even then, Manzambi had to cut short training and was unavailable for the match, which Switzerland won on penalties. There has been no change in his situation since.
Injury hurts – Yakin speaks of shock moment
Coach Murat Yakin confirmed the absence at the pre-match press conference the day before the game. "Johan can unfortunately not play tomorrow. We tried to get Johan fit, but it is not yet possible," Yakin said. The coach also spoke of a "shock moment" and said: "That hurts enormously." Manzambi is Switzerland's top scorer at this tournament with three goals and two assists.
