Kansas City, July 8, 2026
Swiss national team coach Murat Yakin has given an update on the fitness of injured striker Johan Manzambi ahead of the World Cup quarter-final against Argentina and hinted at a possible absence for the match on Sunday in Kansas City.
Manzambi had been forced to cut short training the day before the Colombia match and was not used in the round-of-16 victory on penalties. The exact injury the 20-year-old from SC Freiburg has is not clearly visible, Yakin said after the win against Colombia. "Ob es medizinisch vertretbar ist, kann ich zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt nicht bekanntgeben," said Yakin.
"Er hat zum Glück keine Schmerzen," said the Swiss coach with regard to the attacking player. Yakin did not want to give an exact diagnosis or a prognosis as to whether Manzambi could play on Sunday (3:00 a.m. CEST) in the quarter-final against Argentina. "Mal schauen, was sich jetzt die nächsten ein, zwei Tage ergibt," he said.
