After Uruguay's disappointing group-stage exit from the soccer World Cup, national coach Marcelo Bielsa spoke at a press conference lasting approximately 100 minutes about the psychological state of goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, his team's running performance, and his own perception.
Marcelo Bielsa, who has been in charge of the Uruguayan national team since May 2023, faced heavy criticism following the surprising group-stage elimination. In the match against European champions Spain, which Uruguay lost 0-1 and which sealed the end of their tournament, Muslera looked poor for the goal conceded and asked to be substituted at halftime himself. The two-time world champion exited with only two points, even though Bielsa says he is convinced his team "should have finished the group stage with seven points."
