Guadalajara, June 26, 2026
Leading players of the Uruguayan national football team have staged a revolt against coach Marcelo Bielsa ahead of the decisive World Cup group match against Spain in Guadalajara, criticizing him for overly hard training sessions, exhausted professionals, and an overly risky style of play.
As the newspapers "El Espectador" and ESPN report in agreement, Fede Valverde of Real Madrid, Rodrigo Betancur of Tottenham Hotspur, and Manuel Ugarte of Manchester United requested a meeting with the Argentine star coach before the match. In the meeting, they reportedly complained about the high training workload, the overextension of the professionals, and the risky style with which Bielsa is preparing the team for the duel with the Spaniards. The match will kick off on Saturday at 2:00 a.m. (ARD and Magenta TV).
