The Spaniard Marc Marquez won the Sprint at the Grand Prix of Japan in Motegi, cutting the deficit to championship leader Jorge Martin to two points.

Following the Sprint victory at Motegi, Marquez sits on 331 points, just a whisker behind his compatriot Jorge Martin, who defends the MotoGP World Championship lead on 333 points. The title duel between the two Spaniards is once again completely wide open with just a few weeks remaining in the season, as the opening laps on the Twin Start grid at Motegi already showed who was paying attention.
