In northern Kosovo, authorities have discovered a mass grave with what are believed to be victims of the Kosovo War, the identification of which could take weeks or months, according to police.
The grave was located in the region around Zubin Potok near Mitrovica, according to the Kosovo police. Emergency services secured the site and began forensic examinations, as reported by the news agency APA on July 31, 2026. The exact timing of the recovery and the number of presumed victims were not officially confirmed at first.
Police statements
Blerim Isufaj, a spokesperson for the Kosovo police, pointed out to journalists that the identification of the victims would take some time. The remains could not simply be removed from the graves; rather, the individual body parts first had to be reassembled and handed over to forensic medicine, according to Isufaj, as reported by the Italian news agency ANSA.
