Media report: David Alaba set to move to Udinese in Serie A

Alaba had been repeatedly linked with moves to the USA or Saudi Arabia in recent months. However, the player himself is said to have expressed a desire to continue playing in a top European league. A stint in Serie A would fulfil that wish and see him competing in one of the continent's most prestigious competitions.

Real Madrid spell and injuries

At Spanish record champions Real Madrid, Alaba was only deployed sporadically in recent seasons. Injuries and strong competition within the squad had significantly reduced his role at the Royals of late. A move to Italy would give him the opportunity to regain regular playing time at the highest level.

Udinese Calcio does not belong to the inner circle of title contenders in Italy, but it has a long-standing tradition in Serie A. The club from Udine has been known in the past for developing and selling talent, and could deploy Alaba as an experienced defensive stalwart.

Italian adventure as a new challenge

For Alaba, a move to Udinese would also be a new challenge on a personal level. After stints at Bayern Munich, where he played for over a decade and won numerous titles, and at Real Madrid, Serie A would be the third major European league of his career.

Austrian media are following the development with great interest, as Alaba is one of the country's best-known footballers. His decision regarding his sporting future is also being watched closely with regard to the Austrian national team, for which he continues to play a central role.

According to further reports by Romano, the final contract details could be clarified in the coming days. The length of the contract and the exact structure of the collaboration between player and club are reportedly still open. An official completion of the transfer is expected in the coming weeks.

Outlook on the completion

Should the move go through, it would be one of the more surprising transfers of the current window. The pairing of a world-class defender with a club like Udinese, which is usually found in mid-table, would attract attention in international football media.

Observers see the potential signing as a sign that Udinese wants to raise its sporting ambitions in Serie A. With a player of Alaba's calibre, the club from Friuli could become more attractive to other experienced professionals and establish itself in the upper third of the table.

Regardless of the outcome of the negotiations, Alaba remains one of the most glittering figures in Austrian football. His possible step to Italy underlines the shift in the later phase of his career, away from absolute top clubs towards clubs where he can take on a leading sporting role.
