Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) visited the area affected by a forest fire near Hürtgenwald in the Eifel region on August 22, 2026, thereby completing his first public appointment after the summer break.
The visit to Hürtgenwald marked the kickoff of political appointments after the summer break.
