"En algunos caso podrían haber tenido vínculos con una facción criminal en una región en disputa, produciendo contenido para ellos en redes sociales o manteniendo relaciones sentimentales con integrantes de cárteles. En otros, los influencers lavan dinero para los cárteles o difunden información de manera similar a la de un periodista," Saucedo said in remarks reported by Mexican outlets.

Culiacán, the capital of Sinaloa, has long been considered a stronghold of the Cártel de Sinaloa. The city has experienced repeated outbreaks of armed violence tied to turf disputes and succession struggles within and between criminal factions, often spilling into public spaces.
