Redmond, June 25, 2026
Microsoft has extended the ESU (Extended Security Updates) program for private Windows 10 users by an additional year without much advance notice, so that security updates will now be delivered until October 12, 2027.
Background: Why Microsoft Is Extending the Program
The company announced from its headquarters in Redmond that enrolled participants in the program will continue to be supported beyond the original end date. "Nutzer würden bis zum Mitte Oktober 2027 auch weiterhin mit Aktualisierungen versorgt", the statement said. Microsoft has updated its support articles and merely points out the change in a footnote, Deutschlandfunk reported on 25.06.2026.
