Mörbisch Lake Festival Celebrates "La Cage aux Folles" with a Dazzling Premiere

Plot and Musical Roots

In the Mörbisch production, Alfons Haider, general director, takes on the role of Zaza. Georges, the nightclub owner, is played by Mark Seibert. The butler Jacob is portrayed by Aliosha Jorge Ungur. Playing Georges' son and his fiancée Anne are Timotheus Hollweg and Anna-Rosa Döller. Ines Hengl-Pirker appears as Anne's mother, Ursula Pfitzner as restaurant owner Jacqueline. Matthias Schlung portrays Anne's father, a homophobic politician.

Set designer Walter Vogelweider, the resident designer of the Lake Festival, created a show staircase spanning the entire width of the stage as well as a central golden cage that transforms into a nightclub stage, a backstage area, and the apartment of Georges and Albin. Responsible for the orchestra pit is Tom Bitterlich, who conducts the Mörbisch Lake Festival Orchestra.

The premiere took place before a sold-out house and ended with prolonged applause. The audience rewarded the performers and the production team with standing ovations, as the festival announced.
