St. Pölten, 01 July 2026

In the first half of 2026, 1,411 restraining and approach orders were issued in Lower Austria, as Franz Popp, head of crime prevention at the State Criminal Office of Lower Austria, reported on Tuesday in St. Pölten.

This brings the numbers back toward the level of 2023 and 2024, Popp said. Police can only intervene when they are called. The total number of orders issued had fallen from 2,795 in 2024 to 2,561 the previous year but rose significantly again in the first half of 2026.

By the end of June, the number of orders this year had already reached 1,411, an increase of 201 cases compared to the same period in 2025. The number of persons classified as potential perpetrators had risen to 1,112 by the end of June this year, compared with 2,117 for the entire previous year and 2,345 in 2024.
