More than 1,100 employees of the AI companies OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Meta have called on the US government to participate in an international effort to deliberately slow progress in the automated development of artificial intelligence.
What the signatories are specifically demanding
In a joint letter, signed on the employee side from the four largest US AI laboratories, the signatories appeal to the US government to reconsider its course regarding the further development of powerful AI systems. They demand democratically legitimized controls before the next generation of so-called automated AI systems is deployed. Specific technical details on possible protective measures, the required limits or timelines are not publicly listed in the letter.
