More than 52,000 people who were persecuted by the Nazi regime or are their descendants have received German citizenship since the beginning of 2021 as part of the so-called reparation naturalization.
Background of the Reform
The figures come from a response by the Federal Ministry of the Interior to a parliamentary inquiry by Left Party MP Ferat Kocak, which is available to the German Press Agency. According to this, a total of 101,180 applications for reparation naturalization were submitted to the Federal Office of Administration between the beginning of 2021 and the end of March this year. 52,180 people received German citizenship during this period.
