MT Melsungen defeated THW Kiel 24-23 in the EHF European League final on Sunday in Hamburg to claim the first major trophy in the club's history.

In front of 12,200 spectators, the North Hesse club edged the record champions in a match that remained tight until the final seconds. David Mandic scored the decisive goal to make it 24-23 with 15 seconds left on the clock, sparking celebrations among the Melsungen players and staff.

The final was a nerve-wracking affair from the opening whistle. THW Kiel, the favorites, were unable to build a lead of more than two goals in the first half. Melsungen goalkeeper Nebojsa Simic played a crucial role, making several strong saves to keep his team in contention.
