Steyr, July 11, 2026

Gregor Mühlberger defended his overall lead on Saturday on the fourth stage of the 75th Tour of Austria, which started and finished in Steyr, and heads into Sunday's final stage from Langenlois to Vienna with a 1:25-minute advantage over American Kevin Vermaerke.

The fourth stage, covering 170.5 kilometers with start and finish in Steyr, offered the approximately 130 remaining riders a rolling profile with several short but steep climbs in the closing phase. Mühlberger, who had won the opening stage in Styria and the queen stage over the Großglockner, finished eleventh in the main field and thus secured his lead in the general classification without taking any major risks. "I thought to myself, I don't want to challenge it and I'm not going to risk anything," the 32-year-old explained at the finish.

The stage win on the road home went to Italy's Andrea Bagioli, who prevailed in the sprint of a small breakaway group. Mühlberger crossed the finish line together with his chasers and did not lose a single second. "It couldn't be better, a dream," said the rider from Haidershofen, who had every reason to be more than satisfied with the course of the race so far. The stage was marked by numerous attacks, all of which Mühlberger parried on the steep Porscheberg.
