A shooting involving multiple suspects left five people wounded at Virginia State University in Ettrick, Chesterfield County, early Saturday, triggering a campus-wide lockdown just before the start of the academic year.

Lockdown activated at VSU

The incident occurred in the area of the Quad Annexes at Virginia State University, according to local authorities. Multiple shooters were reported to be involved, and five people were struck by gunfire. The university, located in Ettrick in Chesterfield County, Virginia, activated its lockdown procedures in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.

Virginia State University, commonly referred to as VSU, moved quickly to alert students, faculty and staff to shelter in place. The university also notified the broader campus community that normal activities had been suspended until further notice. The timing of the shooting, just before the start of the academic year, placed a large number of returning and incoming students in the affected area.
