Munich, July 5, 2026

The Munich Film Festival 2026 has ended after ten days with approximately 95,000 visitors, welcoming stars such as David Duchovny and Pedro Almodóvar.

Amid sweltering heat, the Munich Film Festival presented a total of 130 films from 56 countries. According to the organizers, the preliminary attendance figure was approximately 95,000, around 4,000 more than the previous year. The festival had opened with the historical film "Vaterland."

The focus of the evening was American actor David Duchovny, who received the honorary CineMerit Award. In his acceptance speech, he critically examined America's self-image as a "winner nation" and stated: "Lasst uns doch mal verlieren. Lasst uns verlieren, uns gegenseitig umarmen und sagen: Wir sind alle Verlierer. Können wir jetzt liebhaben?"
