Nagelsmann also explained why he had changed at all during the break. He said he had deliberately put on the black T-shirt with the fan names in order to reward the supporters for their backing. "Die Fans haben tolle Stimmung gemacht. Ich wollte das mit dem einen oder anderen Namen auf dem Shirt noch mal belohnen", he said. He also added with a wink: "Da sind auch die Fans hinten drauf und die Fans haben gute Stimmung gemacht", sagte er augenzwinkernd. "Da wollte ich sie auch mit dem ein oder anderen Namen auf meinem Rücken noch mal belohnen".

After the final whistle, Nagelsmann then appeared in another look: a sports shirt like the one he had already worn before the match during warm-up. That brought the observers' count to three different outfits in total around the game.

An ARD reporter had jokingly asked Nagelsmann after the match whether he had set a record for the most shirt changes of the evening. Nagelsmann played it down and explained that he had actually only changed his shirt once. "Tatsächlich nur einmal", he said.

Reaction to the change of clothes

The German team used all their substitution options in the match against Curaçao. Nagelsmann himself did not make any player changes at halftime. The match ended with a clear 7:1 victory for the German side, who thus continue their path in the tournament in North America.
