NEOS deputy Veit Dengler broke ranks with the coalition during the budget debate in the National Council and called for a separate vote on a sub-chapter.
The budget debate in the National Council on Thursday largely followed coalition lines – with one striking exception. NEOS mandate holder Veit Dengler took the podium and moved that a sub-aspect of the double budget be voted on separately from the remaining federal finance laws. His reasoning: by requesting a separate vote, he was creating an opportunity for "jene, die Maß halten wollen" to vote against that one chapter, Dengler said from the podium.
The move fits into the ongoing debate over the government's budgetary priorities. The other NEOS deputies did not follow Dengler's lead; it is a personal outlier within the governing alliance. As APA reported from parliamentary proceedings, the government majority remained united throughout the debate.
