NEOS National Council member Veit Dengler demands in a position paper that annual party funding be capped at 100 million euros, thereby roughly halving it.
Reform proposals in detail
The proposal by the liberal mandate holder envisages placing all levels – that is, the federation, the federal states, the municipalities and the party-affiliated academies – under a common cap of 100 million euros per year. According to his presentation, this is supplemented by subsidies for the parliamentary clubs in the chambers, such as the Economic Chamber and the Chamber of Labour. In total, the parties would thus, according to Dengler's calculation, still receive around 130 million euros, i.e. roughly half of the currently officially recorded party funding of about 260 million euros.
