Streaming market leader Netflix is considering the introduction of its own live channels and the sale of subscriptions to competing streaming services such as Peacock directly within its own app, in order to halt declining viewing time, according to a media report.

Background: Weaker viewing time and declining TV share

As the Wall Street Journal reports, citing people familiar with the conversations, Netflix executives have been discussing two major ideas for months. "Bislang handelt es sich laut Wall Street Journal um interne Diskussionen, das Blatt beruft sich auf mit den Gesprächen vertraute Personen." Under consideration is, on the one hand, the introduction of proprietary live channels modeled on classic linear television, and on the other, the integration of third-party subscription services into its own offering – "sollen – ähnlich wie bei Amazon Prime Video oder Apple TV – Abodienste anderer Anbieter in die Bibliothek eingebettet werden." Both options would appear as tiles on the Netflix home screen.
