Los Angeles, July 01, 2026
The animated film "Minions & Monster" directed by Pierre Coffin launched in theaters on July 1, 2026, sending the yellow chaos heroes on a journey through the early days of cinema.
In the third standalone spinoff of the series, which serves as a prequel to the Minions' film history so far, James, Henry, and Ed appear as the main characters. The yellow ADHD speedballs, whom their creator Pierre Coffin once described as "lovable idiots," this time find the technology of the sound film to be a problem – their cartoon Esperanto makes them unemployable overnight because their voices don't match their on-screen personas.
Laying a film set to rubble and ashes is part of the series' standard repertoire – the first Minions film from 2015 already proved that the characters' destructive lust works as entertainment even without classical dramaturgy. "Right at the beginning a film set is laid to rubble and ashes, 'Citizen Kane' casually gets a new punchline including a fart joke, and at the end – by now one is used to it in today's blockbuster cinema – Los Angeles is razed to the ground by an orange slime ball," the review states.
