Nice, July 12, 2026

In the southern French city of Nice, roughly one thousand people gathered on Sunday for a silent march marking the tenth anniversary of the jihadist truck attack and paying tribute to its 86 victims.

The participants, most dressed in white, walked along the closed-off Promenade des Anglais — the route the attacker had driven along on the evening of the French national holiday with a truck. The march began at the children's hospital, where the deadly rampage had started, and ended at the point where the attacker had been shot dead by police. Wreaths were laid there.

On July 14, 2016, after the conclusion of the fireworks display for the French national holiday, a truck plowed through the crowd. Eighty-six people were killed, among them three German tourists who were also killed. The perpetrator was shot dead by police. The Islamist terror militia ISIS claimed responsibility for the act, although according to investigators the attacker had no connection to ISIS.
