The Magdeburg Regional Court has sentenced the 51-year-old defendant in the attack on the Magdeburg Christmas market on December 20, 2024, to the maximum sentence.

Background of the Crime

On December 20, 2024, the 51-year-old defendant drove a rental car through the crowded Christmas market in Magdeburg. Six people were killed and more than 300 were injured. The trial before the Magdeburg Regional Court, which had been ongoing since November, has now ended with the maximum sentence.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the defendant acted out of personal motives. "Er habe keine Reue gezeigt," the authority stated after the verdict was announced. The Prosecutor General's Office had demanded the maximum sentence.
