Crown Prince Haakon of Norway has shortened a planned trip to Japan next week because of the worsening health of his wife, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, the Royal House announced on Thursday.
The 52-year-old heir to the Norwegian throne was scheduled to travel to Tokyo for an official program that was originally set to conclude on Thursday. The visit will now end on Wednesday instead, with the prince returning home earlier than planned.
Crown Princess Mette-Marit, also 52, has been battling an incurable lung disease for several years. The Royal House has previously disclosed that she suffers from chronic pulmonary fibrosis, a condition that progressively scars lung tissue and makes breathing increasingly difficult.
