According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the number of crimes against homeless people in Germany rose by just under 17 percent to 2,563 cases last year, as reported by the "Rheinische Post" (Saturday edition), citing a response to a minor interpellation by the Left parliamentary group.
In the two preceding years, 2023 and 2024, the police had each recorded just under 2,200 such crimes. According to this, a total of 2,563 crimes against homeless people occurred in 2025. The figures come from the Police Crime Statistics and were provided to the Evangelical Press Service (epd) and the "Rheinische Post" by the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
Left Party member of the Bundestag Sahra Mirow, spokesperson for Social Housing, warned of a dramatic development. "Wir erleben auf unseren Straßen derzeit eine beispiellose Gewalteskalation gegen wohnungslose Menschen", she told the "Rheinische Post". The more than 2,500 crimes recorded by the police represented only the tip of the iceberg. Due to a low willingness to file reports among those affected as well as imprecise recording criteria and definitions on the part of the authorities, a significant dark figure and far higher case numbers must be assumed.
