The Austrian Trade Union Federation (ÖGB) has calculated that closing the pay gap between women and men would strengthen the state budget by up to 5.4 billion euros per year in additional revenue.

The Austrian Trade Union Federation (ÖGB) has quantified the fiscal effects of closing the pay gap between women and men in a new calculation. According to this, women would on average earn 221 euros net more per month if their salaries were brought into line with those of men. This would generate additional revenue of 5.4 billion euros per year for the public sector.

The calculations are based on 2024 microcensus data on male and female workers and employees aged 20 to 59. The corresponding pay gap was 16 percent and was added to women's salaries for the simulation. Here too, women would on average earn 10.2 percent more if the gap were closed.
