Oldenburg, 17 August 2026
The Oldenburg Administrative Court on Monday rejected two urgent applications by AfD politicians Christoph Sichert and Stephan Bothe, who had sought to prevent their exclusion from district administrator elections in Lower Saxony.
According to the German Press Agency, the Oldenburg Administrative Court does not have jurisdiction over the urgent applications; they must be filed with the Lüneburg Administrative Court. The court there rejected the applications for interim legal protection on 15 August. The courts announced this on Monday.
Both politicians had been rejected as candidates for the district administrator elections by the election committees of the Friesland and Lüneburg districts, respectively. The committees cited doubts about the applicants’ loyalty to the constitution. Sichert and Bothe challenged these decisions in court.
