The Sultanate of Oman is working toward a compromise in the dispute over the Strait of Hormuz and is proposing a voluntary-contribution model based on the Strait of Malacca, in an effort to break the deadlock between Iran, the United States, and their allies.

Following the start of the war between Israel and Iran in June 2025, the Strait of Hormuz has been at the center of a dangerous power struggle. Tehran has declared that it wishes to administer the Strait of Hormuz jointly with Oman, which controls the opposite shore. In addition, Iran wants to levy user fees on ships passing through the strait. No statement was available from Iran.
