The CEO of Austrian energy group OMV, Alfred Stern, confirmed on Wednesday in Vienna that the company is cutting back diesel production in favor of kerosene, as this aligns with current market developments.
Background to the decision
Stern explained to journalists in Vienna that OMV is flexibly managing its refineries and currently prefers to produce kerosene over diesel. "Das geht aber nicht beliebig", the OMV CEO said on Wednesday. The shift between product streams is a direct response to the profitability of the individual fuels on the European markets.
According to the company, the background is the ongoing volatility on the energy markets. "Vorhersagen sind aber immer schwierig, weil die Situation extrem volatil ist", Stern said in Vienna. On the futures markets, there is indeed a certain easing under the assumption that the Strait of Hormuz is passable again, but Stern described this as an "optimistische Annahme".
