One dead and three seriously injured after wrong-way crash on A14 near Döbeln

The three seriously injured people, all of whom were taken to hospitals, include the 61-year-old female passenger of the wrong-way driver and a 61-year-old driver of another involved car. Police confirmed that the wrong-way driver and two women in the oncoming cars were also injured in the sequence of crashes. The driver of the semi-truck that was struck in the secondary collision was uninjured.

Second crash in the traffic jam

A traffic jam formed on the A14 as a direct result of the wrong-way accident, and the congestion itself led to a second fatal collision. "Wegen des Falschfahrer-Unfalls bildete sich Stau", police noted. At the tail end of the jam, a 32-year-old Sprinter van driver rear-ended a semi-truck and was killed in the impact, bringing the overall toll to one dead and three seriously injured.

Closure and traffic disruption

The A14 in the direction of Dresden was fully closed at the Döbeln-Nord interchange. "Die Autobahn in Richtung Dresden wurde an der Anschlussstelle Döbeln-Nord voll gesperrt", according to the police, who said the closure was expected to last at least until 22:00 and resulted in significant traffic disruptions in the area.

Separate wrong-way driver on the B173

Separately, MDR Verkehrsservice reported that a wrong-way driver was also spotted on Thursday evening on the B173 federal road between Chemnitz and Oberlungwitz. In that case, no accident was reported, and the warning served only as a traffic notice. "Ein Unfall wurde hier nicht gemeldet", according to the broadcaster.

Police have not yet released further details on the condition of the injured parties or the exact sequence of the secondary crash. The investigations into both incidents are continuing, and authorities have urged drivers in the region to remain alert to the closure of the A14 and the residual delays expected through the evening.
