ORF Summer Talks Begin with Leonore Gewessler – 482,000 Viewers

Next Monday, Beate Meinl-Reisinger will be Simone Stribl's guest. This is the second edition of this year's series and brings another prominent voice from the government camp into the studio with the Neos chairwoman.

After that, on each following Monday at 9 PM on ORF 2, Andreas Babler (SPÖ), Christian Stocker (ÖVP), and finally Herbert Kickl will appear. With the order of invited guests, ORF traditionally also connects a substantive dramaturgy that places smaller parties earlier and larger ones later in the program.

Additional Guests in the Series

With the opening episode, ORF also sets the framework for the following four weeks. In the weeks before, brief interviews and press statements had typically shaped political coverage in prime time. The Summer Talks, by contrast, return to the in-depth conversation format.

The ratings of the opening episode will be closely watched in the industry in the coming days. 482,000 viewers represent a solid market share in prime-time programming, especially as competition from streaming services and other free-to-air channels has steadily increased in recent years.

For domestic media observers, the Summer Talks also serve as a barometer of public mood: the guests' performances will be analyzed in detail in newspapers, online media, and social networks in the days that follow. The Green Party leader's appearance at the start of the series therefore receives particular attention.

Looking ahead to the upcoming editions, ORF announced that the series will continue as usual on the following Mondays at 9 PM on ORF 2. The day before each broadcast, the ORF team will publish excerpts from the interviews as a preview.

The Summer Talks were first broadcast in Austria in the 1990s and have since become a fixed part of the summer programming. They are considered one of the few opportunities at which leading politicians can take detailed positions without the hectic pace of a news studio.
