Specialist heritage unit takes over inquiry

A team from the Carabinieri's cultural heritage unit, the Comando Carabinieri Tutela Patrimonio Culturale, has been informed and is expected to take over the investigation, as is standard practice for art thefts in Italy. Specialists said the unit, which has recovered thousands of stolen objects over the past five decades, would examine serial numbers, provenance records and any leads from the international market.
