Two illustrations by Henri Matisse from the art book «Jazz» (1947), which were stolen in December 2025 from a public library in São Paulo, have been recovered by Brazilian police.
Brazilian police have seized two illustrations from the art book «Jazz» by French painter Henri Matisse that had been stolen from a library in the city of São Paulo in December. The city administration announced this on Thursday, as Brazilian media consistently reported.
The recovered works are original prints from the 1947 artist's book edition «Jazz», which Matisse had designed with cut-outs and accompanying colored texts. According to available estimates, the value of the two sheets is put at a total of around 200,000 US dollars (approximately 160,000 Swiss francs).
