Paris prosecutors have arrested 16 individuals in a widening investigation into sexual violence allegations at kindergartens and schools across the French capital.
The arrested individuals include kindergarten employees, educational supervisors, and animators, aged between 18 and 68. They face accusations ranging from 'rape of minors' to 'sexual assault on minors' and 'violence against minors.'
According to Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau, all of Paris's arrondissements are affected by the investigations. 'Alle Pariser Arrondissements sind betroffen,' she told RTL broadcaster on Sunday.
The scandal was first exposed by the newspaper Le Monde and has led to widespread public outrage. Investigations have been initiated against more than 100 institutions, including 84 kindergartens, around 20 elementary schools, and ten children's daycare centers.
