Pedestrian struck by car and fatally injured in Hermagor

According to initial investigations, the pedestrian had crossed the roadway outside of a pedestrian crossing. Whether there were additional circumstances, such as poor visibility or possible alcohol involvement, was initially the subject of ongoing inquiries.

Police have called in an expert to clarify the exact course of the accident. An expert is, among other things, to reconstruct the speed at which the vehicle was traveling and how the accident could have unfolded.

Investigations ongoing

With the death of the 58-year-old, the number of traffic fatalities in Carinthia this year has risen. Just a few weeks earlier, there had been a fatal accident in the Hermagor district on another rural road, in which a pedestrian also lost their life. A serious traffic accident had also been reported in the past from Obervellach.

Information to the police

The authorities are asking eyewitnesses who observed the accident to contact the police. Information will be accepted at the nearest police station.

The section of the B111 Gailtal Straße remained partially closed following the accident for the duration of the investigations and the cleanup work. Drivers were guided past the accident scene via detours.
