Stuttgart, 22 August 2026

VfB Stuttgart progressed in the DFB-Pokal on Friday with a victory over third-tier FC Hansa Rostock, with summer signing Dzenan Pejcinovic and goalkeeper Fabian Bredlow singled out as the decisive performers.

Stuttgart's first competitive outing of the new season delivered a win and a handful of standout performances, with Pejcinovic opening his account for the club and Bredlow producing a string of saves that preserved the lead. The match, played at the MHP Arena, gave coach Sebastian Hoeneß a chance to rotate his squad while still demanding a professional response against lower-division opposition.

Pejcinovic, signed during the summer window, showed exactly the kind of presence in both boxes that Stuttgart hoped he would bring. His opener rewarded a first half in which the home side controlled possession without always penetrating a compact Rostock block, and his movement set the tone for the forwards around him.
