The US Department of Defense has canceled the deployment of more than 4,000 soldiers from a combat brigade to Europe, according to multiple Pentagon officials.
Strategic Reversal
The decision, communicated during a meeting of the US European Command (EUCOM) and Army representatives, marks a sudden shift in NATO reinforcement plans. The troops were slated to rotate into Europe, primarily Poland, to collaborate with allied forces.
"Task and Purpose" reported that the deployment was intended to support "Operation Atlantic Resolve," a US-led initiative launched in 2014 after Russia's annexation of Crimea. The operation aimed to bolster NATO partners in Eastern Europe.
Logistical Disruptions
Some equipment and personnel were already en route when the order was issued, catching segments of the Army by surprise.
