Muscat, September 16, 2026

A foreign ministers' meeting on the security situation at the Strait of Hormuz that had been planned for Oman has been postponed at the request of several regional states, according to Tehran.

According to a spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Tehran and Muscat agreed by mutual consent not to hold the planned meeting for the time being. As a reason, the government in Tehran cited requests "at the request of some countries in the region" (Original wording: "at the request of some countries in the region"), which had asked for a postponement, according to the Iranian news agency Fars.

The talks were previously planned to take place in Muscat and to address the security policy situation at the strategically important strait. The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and is considered one of the central routes for global energy trade. Any impairment of passage would have immediate effects on supplies of crude oil and liquefied gas.
