US President Donald Trump has publicly threatened the Sultanate of Oman with bombing, thereby further pressuring Muscat's mediating role in the negotiations with Iran.

With his threatening words, Trump is intensifying the already tense tone in the negotiations over the Iranian nuclear program. In recent months, Oman had positioned itself as a neutral channel between Washington and Tehran and repeatedly organized rounds of talks on its soil. The latest escalation is now directed squarely at the Sultanate, which had previously been regarded as one of the few bridge-builders in the conflict.
