Police in Vienna search for suspects after armed robbery of taxi driver

The crime scene lies near the Donauinsel, a long island in the Danube that runs alongside the Floridsdorf and Donaustadt districts and is a popular recreational area, particularly during nighttime hours when visitors leave events along its length.

The Landeskriminalamt Wien has appealed to members of the public for information. Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the Oswald-Redlich-Straße area or near the Donauinsel in the early hours of Sunday has been asked to contact the Außenstelle Nord.

The robbery has drawn attention because of its location in a residential area close to a large municipal housing complex, known locally as a Gemeindebau. Police have not said whether the attack was connected to a broader pattern of offences in the district.

Officials confirmed that the search for the perpetrators is ongoing. No arrests had been announced by midday Sunday.

The case has been handed to detectives specialised in violent robbery investigations within the Landeskriminalamt Wien. Standard procedure includes reviewing nearby surveillance footage and canvassing residents in the immediate area.
