Porsche Automobil Holding SE, the majority owner of the Volkswagen Group, reported a loss in the billions in the first half of 2026, while at the same time the group-wide austerity drive by VW CEO Oliver Blume failed due to internal resistance.

Porsche Automobil Holding SE (PSE) presented its half-year financial results on Friday in Stuttgart and reported a negative result in the billions for the first six months of 2026. The company attributed the development, among other things, to impairments on investments and to burdens from operating business. The half-year figures mark a turning point for the holding company, which in previous years had benefited from dividend payments and positive valuation effects from the Volkswagen Group.

Porsche SE holds around 53 percent of the common shares and approximately 32 percent of the preferred shares in Volkswagen AG and is thus the largest single shareholder of the Wolfsburg-based group. Through its stake in Porsche AG, the sports car manufacturer, the holding additionally participates in the development of the Porsche brand. The holding's result is essentially determined by the performance of these two investments, which is why intra-group decisions at Volkswagen have a direct impact on PSE's investment success.
