Potsdam, June 04, 2026

The Potsdam city council has decided to ban smart glasses with cameras and microphones in city swimming pools and saunas, and the Potsdam Baths will incorporate the ban into its house and bathing rules.

The Green/Volt parliamentary group introduced the motion, which has now found a majority. The city councilors are thus reacting to a development that, in their view, endangers the privacy of bathers. The resolution provides for the expansion of the Potsdam Baths' house and bathing rules to include smart glasses with photo, video, and audio recording functions.

Justification: Protection of Privacy

The justification for the motion states that recordings are increasingly being published on social media without the affected individuals being aware of it. The parliamentary group literally states: "Currently, recordings are increasingly being published on social media without the affected individuals knowing." Bathers in swimwear, therefore, have a legitimate interest in an undisturbed stay and must be protected from the misuse of smart glasses.
