The Göttingen Local Court (Amtsgericht) opened preliminary insolvency proceedings over the assets of Steidl GmbH & Co. OHG last Friday (10 July) and appointed Brunswick-based attorney Stefan Liese as preliminary insolvency administrator.

As the Göttingen Local Court confirmed, the preliminary insolvency proceedings over the assets of Steidl GmbH & Co. OHG were opened last Friday. According to information from his office, Brunswick-based attorney Stefan Liese has been appointed as preliminary insolvency administrator; according to his statements, unpaid social security contributions are at the center of the matter.
The Göttingen-based Steidl Verlag is among the renowned addresses for high-quality art and photography books. The house was founded in 1969 by Gerhard Steidl, who is now 75 years old. Steidl became internationally known, among other things, through the "L.S.D." (Lagerfeld Steidl Druckerei) publishing line, in which, for example, Karl Lagerfeld published; bibliophile editions of works by Immanuel Kant and Virginia Woolf also appeared in this series. "In addition, Steidl had established itself as a publisher of high-quality art and photography books," the reporting states.
