A 23-year-old professional soldier from Klagenfurt sustained serious injuries to his hands shortly before noon on Wednesday during a shooting exercise of the Austrian Armed Forces at a firing range in Judenburg (Murtal district, Styria), when a grenade detonated during reloading.

Sequence of the Accident

The accident occurred around 11:45 a.m. during a shooting training session with live ammunition. According to the Armed Forces, a group of professional soldiers was at the firing range as part of their training. The 23-year-old was assigned as a loader to a grenade launcher and was reloading the live grenades. A severe detonation occurred.
