The prosecution filed an appeal on Monday against the acquittal of Heinz-Christian Strache in the so-called "Life Insurance" case, as a spokesperson for the prosecution authority confirmed to APA.

Background: What the Case Is About

Strache was acquitted last Thursday in the so-called "Life Insurance" case. The prosecution is now appealing against this verdict, as the prosecution authority told APA on Monday in response to a query. The presumption of innocence applies to the former FPÖ leader and his co-defendant.

Put simply, the charge was that Strache, with the help of his co-defendant, had altered an insurance policy taken out by the Vienna state party for his own benefit. The prosecution speaks of a "self-dealing transaction" (In-sich-Geschäft), since Strache signed both as the new beneficiary and as a representative of the party — that is, the former beneficiary.
