The ProSiebenSat.1 broadcasting group will launch a new free-TV channel called Sat.2 in winter, aimed specifically at viewers aged 50 and over, as Content Chief Henrik Pabst told the Süddeutsche Zeitung.
With Sat.2, ProSiebenSat.1 is expanding its channel family to include an additional full-service channel. According to the company, it is the group's first new free-TV channel since 2016. Under the motto "Wiedersehen macht Freude," the channel is set to focus primarily on reruns of well-known programs from the Sat.1 archive. Planned content includes reruns of series such as "Der Bulle von Tölz," "Kommissar Rex," and the telenovela "Verliebt in Berlin."
Henrik Pabst, Chief Content Officer of ProSiebenSat.1, justified the expansion strategically. "Mit Sat.2 wollen wir unser Portfolio strategisch erweitern und insbesondere den Zuschauerinnen und Zuschauern ab 50 Jahren eine neue und zusätzliche Alternative für ihre Entertainment-Bedürfnisse bieten," Pabst told the Süddeutsche Zeitung. The channel is thus positioned as a complement to the group's existing programming.
